DWOLLA SELECTED AS FINALIST FOR 2010 PROMETHEUS AWARDS
New Online Money Transfer System is a Final Contender for
Outstanding StartUp Company of the Year
DES MOINES, Iowa. – (Mar.15, 2010) – Dwolla, a new online money transfer system, was selected as a finalist for the 2010 Prometheus Awards, Iowa’s most prestigious technology industry awards program. Dwolla earned a nomination for Outstanding StartUp Company of the Year.
The Outstanding Startup award recognizes a company that has an original strategy and clear, motivated vision. The company’s ability to target and solve a unique need and identify well with its target market are other criterion examined. Dwolla is making its mark in the online money transfer industry by offering a low-cost alternative to the current online payment services. Unlike other payment vendors, Dwolla doesn’t charge the customer a percentage of the amount being transferred. Instead, Dwolla relies on a proprietary payment platform that allows it to be free of unnecessary bank charges and fees associated with competing payment platforms. The service was launched December 1, 2009, in Iowa, with hundreds of businesses jumping onboard to take advantage of the low cost of service for online B2B transactions.
The Prometheus Awards were created by the Technology Association of Iowa (TAI) to celebrate the innovation and high-tech excellence in Iowa. This showcase honors companies and individuals who represent the best and brightest in technology and business and have demonstrated outstanding leadership and innovation. This year’s awards are co-sponsored by TAI and LWBJ Financial. The winners of the 2010 awards will be announced April 6 at the Prairie Meadows Conference and Events Center in Altoona.
“We’re honored to be named a finalist for the Prometheus Awards, one of the most distinguished technology industry awards in the Midwest,” said Ben Milne, founder and CEO of Dwolla. “We really believe Dwolla has great potential to help both Iowa businesses and consumers cut costs, and it’s great to see that others believe it does too. The support we have received from the Iowa community is unreal; we couldn’t have asked for a better place to launch our company!”
