Dwolla is Growing in NYC

Many people know Dwolla as that payments company from the Midwest, but something magical happened this spring. We hired some awesome people from the East coast and told them to stay put, because they were doing some truly amazing things in the New York City tech scene.

Meet the NYC team

In April, we hired our first two New York Dwollans and caught some attention from the press for it. Alex became our first official business developer, and Michael became our first developer evangelist. Since then, we’re proud to say that we’ve hired Nicole as a full-time business developer, as well as interns Carleen and Brian who are kicking butt on the community development front.

So where do these sharp New Yorkers work? They’ve posted up shop in General Assembly, a community of  businesses, developers, designers, and creative types working in the same space to move their startups forward. They’re able to brush elbows with the folks from Stripe and Twilio, while making new connections with promising young startups like DineInFresh, Food52 and Derby Jackpot.

They also get to look at inspiring chalkboard artistry, like this one of Neil Armstrong.

Where to grab a bite to eat when you visit them

If you find yourself near General Assembly anytime soon, check out some of the fine establishments in the area that are now accepting Dwolla. One of them would be Greensquare Tavern, where that charming NYC team photo was taken during one of their first work lunches.

Greensquare Tavern is only two blocks down from GA, and is proud to be a restaurant that promotes farm to table eating. As one of Nicole’s favorites, she had this to say, “I get the Flatiron chicken sandwich pretty much every single time…I can’t stop. It’s organic chicken, with roasted sweet peppers, farmer cheese, and pesto sauce, served on a baguette…and it’s served with field greens. Yum!”

Closer yet, Brio is a trendy Italian restaurant only two doors down from GA. There isn’t a day in the summer that the sidewalk tables aren’t full of patrons walking in for the awesome food and great drinks. A popular spot among GA members and a go to establishment to hold a business meeting, Brio is a NYC favorite where you are sure to find something that you will love even more than the high ceilings and big windows.

And if you’re looking for somewhere you can pop in and grab some good food, Lucky 777 Chili may just be your new favorite place to get an award winning bowl of chili. In the middle of Greenwich Village, Lucky 777 is a super casual location and a favorite of NYU students.  Pick your choice of turkey, pork or bean chili, or grab a quesadilla or beef hoagie. Comfort food at its finest.

In conclusion, we couldn’t be happier to be growing our team and our customer base in New York City. Keep letting us know about the businesses that you’d like to see accept Dwolla, (like Beecher’s) and remember, you can always let them know by requesting Dwolla at their location.
